Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is one of my favourite cities in the world.
With the bustling alleys, the weathered street stalls, the food-coma inducing cuisine, the unruly traffic and the general chaos of it all, it still manages to preserve its stateliness – as is appropriate for a city that’s been a capital of various states over a thousand years.
Different things to different travelers, I found myself lost in the cultural and visual potpourri with eyes wide open like a 5-year old.
Forget what your insurance company (and mother) told you, rent a motorbike and delve into the traffic. Make eye contact with people in your way and you’ll quickly learn how the road ‘rules’ work in this city.
And whatever you do, do not leave without at least a few servings of Bun Cha.
